I Don't Be Thinkin' So

“Excuse me, coming through” he said as if we would all part like the Dead Sea, as if his voice would be heard by the herd, as if we were all sheep. But, no one is my shepherd. No voice is my command and no, my soul is not for keeps. Not after all those years of thinkin’ I might die before I woke up — Now I lay me down to sleep.’ They’d say, “Pray. You never know if you will be alive the next day!” So, I’d pray, I’d say: “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the lord my sould to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray (that same) lord my soul to take.” Well, I don’t be thinkin’ so, no, not now. No, I don’t be thinkin’ so because now I just lay me down. What is it that can lay such a firm grip on people’s minds? It’s that leash of the dogma. And, why is it so bloodly well designed, makes people blind? Religion: It’s that trap of willful lack of self-will and self-right. It isn’t right. It isn’t right. It isn’t right. I want to be saved too! I want to wake up dead, but in a strange world where everything is nice and I’ll say, “well, this isn’t how HELL was described.” And, I want to be loved too! But, I will not compromise. Isn’t there a holiness for all those who hold goodness in their eyes?… You know, what they say, it isn’t right and I know because after all those years of thinking I might die before I woke up — Now I lay me down to sleep.’ …You know, if there were something I had to say before I lay me down, I’d say this: “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray my LOVE my soul to keep.
