Breath

silent northern lake slurps at the shore
and the sky emerged from night
like a drag queen bursting from dressing room door
and the moss is soft like a corduroy cushion
and the sweet summer air drinks us in late in the season
my hair smells faint like campfire ash
and the lake takes naked skin with splash and laughter
it is breath that we’re after…
breathe with your limbs now
breathe in the sky
and let all your worries just lift now
let it go, let it go, let it go
dusk is a dinner plate laden with colours
textures upon the lake, reflectors and mirrors
and the loons, the loons call
to vibrate the trees and the thick breeze
movement by melody
the sun dances then leaves
soon the moon pours her silver into the waters
like creamer in coffee
like the sunlight has taught her
to hit the world stunning
no less than a diva or a master
this well-balanced power, I wish I could ask her
just what the stars think of her nightly performance
they are crowding the sky with their smothering brilliance
and I’m sure if I open my mouth they will flood right in
yes I’m sure if I open my mouth they will flood right in
it would be a mouth full of stars
it’s breath that we’re after…
breathe with your limbs now…
breathe with your limbs now, stretch out
breathe deep into the sky
and let all your worries just drift now
let it go, let it go, let it go
if only for just one moment to refuel
silent northern lake slurped at the shore
and the sky emerged from night
