Little Girl
There used to be a clown in my room as a child. He used to wear a sad, sad sort of frown but, you could make him smile just by flipping him upside-down. And then, you’d set him straight again. You’d say, “he was made to be that way.” You’d set him right-side-up as if smiling were wrong. Here is your Little Girl. Right here is your Little Girl. And now you say it’s me who has flipped. You say I’ve chosen the other side as if life were a war or a game. But there’s an up-side to being down and a down-side to being up and we’re really not as different as we are the same. Yah, I know you’d like to set me straight. You say I was made to be that way. You say I made the wrong choice. Don’t you hear the sound of my voice? Oh, the shit you say…you say I am just a Little Girl. I am too young to know about these things’ because I am just a Little Girl. I am too young. I am just a Little Girl. And then you stand there looking down on me, as if this were about hierarchy. You are standing on top of majority. It’s just an illusion of height. Now, I have got some news for you: I have found my smile. Just like that clown flipped upside-down. But, this is my Right side, this is my Right side. And, you could not set me straight even if you tried! No, you could not set me straight even if you tried! You, you would be wasting your time. I just want you to love me because I am still you Little Girl. Why can’t I still be your Little Girl? Don’t you love me the same? I am still your Little Girl. Oh why can’t I still be your Little Girl? There used to be a clown in my room as a child. He used to wear a sad, sad sort of frown but, you could make him smile just by flipping him upside-down.
